Several days a week, locals drive the 20 or 30 miles one way - depending on where they are coming from — just to eat at a country-style restaurant called Zack in the small Geneva County town of Slocomb. They come because it is food worth driving for.

As of next Monday, the drive for many gets shorter. Zack’s Family Restaurant owner Zack Whaley is opening a second location in north Dothan at 1495 Headland Ave., just inside Ross Clark Circle behind Cowboy’s gas station

When I am craving Southern food, it doesn’t get any better than Zack’s.

Originally a Slocomb joint, the restaurant expanded to Dothan several years ago, making it that much easier to get a fried-goodness fix.

There’s really nothing bad about Zack’s, except for maybe the calorie count and the line for Sunday lunch. The food is always good and the service is quick. For about $10, you get a meat, three sides, a dessert, bread and a drink.
